2012 MILLENNIUM TECHNOLOGY PRIZE SHARED

Technology Academy Finland announced on 13 June that two prominent innovators, Linus Torvalds, an open source software engineer, and Dr Shinya Yamanaka, a stem cell scientist, are joint Grand Winners of the 2012 Millennium Technology Prize, one of the world’s major technology awards for excellence in science and technology. The two winners received their prize from the Finnish President, Sauli Niinistö, at a ceremony in Helsinki, in front of an audience of scientists and business leaders. The €1.2 million prize fund will be split, with both winners receiving €600 000 each.
