EC PROPOSES REVISION OF TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER BLOCK EXEMPTION REGULATION

ASEAN IPR SME HelpdeskThe European Commission has launched a public consultation regarding the revision of rules on technology transfer agreements with a view to changing the existing exemptions. The Commission may impose rules so as to avoid companies using license agreements to divide up markets among themselves or to block competing technologies from entering the market. The Technology Transfer Block Exemption Regulation (TTBER) bestows an exemption on certain technology transfer instruments, such as patents and know-how licenses, from European competition rules.

The current TTBER expires on 30 April 2013; the Commission is inviting comments on its proposals until 17 May 2013 at the following link: http://ec.europa.eu/competition/consultations/2013_technology_transfer/index_en.html
